Purpose Over Perfect

Hustle. Create. Post. Engage. Rinse. Repeat.

If I'm being completely transparent, I really have a love-hate relationship with this part of up-starting a business. I love being able to create what & when I want to, and sharing that purpose-driven content. Engaging organically with others, whether it's over their content or mine, and building relationships.

What I can't stand is the fact that social media only tends to really reward those who take advantage of a certain set of trade secrets, and follow some metaphorical Pied Piper to "Influencer Status". Being a new fledgling soul-driven business equipped with nothing but a name, a $50 Etsy logo, my burning passion to serve, and some free online image generating software - I started to fall into the trap that I'm not enough. I began to think that I needed to play like the big dogs if I wanted to really reach a wide audience, that may be looking for what I have to offer. So, I gave in, and started down that path.

And you know what? It didn't take long for me to despise it.

Exhaustion, pressure, and anxiety started to creep in, because following "x, y, and z" was supposed to guarantee me certain results, and it wasn't. I was better off being my most authentic self, posting what I wanted & when I could. The amount of compliments I got for my actual content was really surprising, but then it just kind of stopped once I stopped being 100% real. Wow. I was enough all along.

Moving forward - I'm no longer going to post according to someone else's schedule. Or make sure that my 9-12 squares perfectly visualize my brand. And I'm certainly not going to post any more captions that ask mindless questions, like "What's your favorite drink order?" Even if that's what other successful social media entrepreneur's encourage you to do if you want the perfect 'gram that pulls in tons of followers and clients.

Being perfect isn't, and was never my purpose, and I lost sight of that for a fraction of a minute. Lesson learned, thanks Universe. From now on, it will be 100% purpose over anything else, Scout's Honor.
